Testing for gases
The following videos contain tests for some common gases.
Test for ammonia gasThe gas turns:
(i) moist red litmus blue or (ii) the gas can react with hydrochloric acid to produce ammonium chloride which is white in appearance. |

Test for oxygen gasThe gas relights a glowing splint

Test for hydrogen gasThe gas caues a lighted splint to out with a squeaky pop!!

Test for carbon dioxide gasThe gas reacts with calcium hydroxide (limewater) and turns it to calcium carbonate, which is a white precipitate.

Test for chlorine gasThe gas turns Blue litmus Red and then bleaches it.
